About peer support

What is peer support?

Peer support is guidance from someone with lived experience of mental health recovery. Unlike traditional therapy, which follows a clinical model, it is built on shared experience, empathy and empowerment: a safe, judgment-free space to speak openly and feel understood.

Lived experience at the center

Peer counselors draw on their own struggles and recovery, so you are talking with someone who truly understands.

Empathy over hierarchy

You are met as an equal. Trust is built through honesty and respect, not a clinical script.

Strength-based

The focus is on your resilience, your goals and taking the next step forward.

Support for real life

Help with stress, anxiety, life transitions or simply the need to feel understood.

Good to know

Peer support is non-clinical and does not replace therapy or psychiatric treatment. It works alongside the care you receive from our nurse practitioners, and Jessie coordinates with them to keep your care connected.
